The aviation Medicine Society of New Zealand held a ‘successful’’ fly in at
Hamilton airport and Raglan on the weekend of 15/16th March
A number of Doctors who also fly made the trip. There were interesting talks on
a variety of medical topics with an aviation bias from various doctors and
surgeons. There was an edict that no talk was to be supported by powerpoint
displays, and this allowed lively debate on all topics. These included subjects
as diverse as medivac retrieval, fitness to fly in pregnancy (for those non
fliers the best advice when asked about this by a patient is to check with the
person’s insurance company as there is wide variation in what they offer),
forensic psychiatry to name a few.
There followed a tour of the CTC international aviation training facility, and
the control tower.
The meeting concluded and the attendees flew (one or two drove) to Raglan, where
a successful barbeque that night and breakfast meeting the following morning
were held.
There were an interesting collection of aircraft flown in – including both
fixed wing and helicopter.
It is hoped this will become an annual event for those doctors with an aviation
interest
